Week Three Day 1 Splendor In Space

Alright yesterday and today I started working on the different ships. I almost finished the first one but, the other day I managed to add some color to the ships. Honestly everything is going pretty good. Jesse is finally working on the code and objects in Unity and things are starting to come together. The real good part about asset designing is that I have two friends that went to college for it. They don't know about Fireworks, but it's apparently really similar. So I got some help when it comes to figuring this program out. I was kinda flustered at first trying to work on things though. I wish my class had a lesson on using fireworks and it's basics because I feel like the project might get hindered if you don't know what you're doing. Anyways this has been a productive day and most likely a productive week.

Week 6 The Review for the Test

Oh man I wasn't expecting a test for some reason. Especially on paper! Anyways we went over the different bits that are bound to be in the test. I think the most worrying part is going to be the coding. Plus we voted for it to be after break so I'm starting to feel the pressure. I'm not sure what to expect though because the teacher and Jesse, the student that I mentioned last post, are claiming the test from Mont Co to be easy. So I don't know how to feel. Though recently we have been working with code a bit more and I think I'm starting to at least get the skeleton basics down. I don't feel like this will be enough for us to do anything yet though. We'll see how this works out. For now I feel as if I might have to start learning the basic of java coding outside of class so I don't fall even further behind. We'll see how everything works out. I just hope we can get to our projects soon.

Week 5 Coding Time

This week I saw how weak I really was when it came to code. The whole class seems to have a semblance of what they are doing while I feel almost completely useless. Jared, one of the students in our class has Java down to the point where he can teach the class along side our teacher. I never realized that Jared was this smart. Otherwise I gotta say I am learning. We learned about the different statement though I do remember learning about them in what I believe to be STEM. Though I don't remember learning about the little diagrams which mind you my entire class (excluding me) thinks is hilarious. Regarding my game progress I must say I glad I at least got it done. Jesse, my classmate, is going beyond the regular game with different shot types and difficulty and such. His version of the game is kinda interesting. I don't think I can manage to do the code that he has figured out though. I realize also that it's not that I don't know about the different code commands but, rather how the code itself is formatted and how it works together. I feel good knowing that I can at least read it. Anyways that was this week. Hopefully I can do better.

First Marking Period Overview

Ok so my first impressions of electronic game design is that it's not that great. I would really like to start working on assets and textures but, for the most part we've been focusing on coding. I noticed that for some reason when it comes to languages, coding or otherwise, the only one I'm really good at is the one I'm typing right now. Now it's not like i'm not learning either because a classmate showed me some of his code and I was able to understand what it did. I just couldn't write it out for some reason. I think it's mostly because I still don't understand the format. I understand vars usually go first but, I don't get functions and I guess statements. Either way I feel really overwhelmed in this class. I like the environment and the teacher but, what we're learning is a different story. I feel like I can take notes well and do what I need to do when it comes to bare bones basics but, I need to do more learning with code. Anyways, that how I feel about this class so far when it comes to what we learned. I'm pretty worried about our upcoming test but, hopefully it won't be too hard. we'll see.

Now I will go on to a more positive note. I feel like I'm starting to understand Unity pretty well. I understand how to use a lot of the tools in Unity like for example lighting and backgrounds. I also feel like I can come in really strong on these assets for my group's up coming project. I also feel comfortable with quality testing because I can find little issues pretty easily. This marking period has been interesting and has given me a new respect for Game Devs. IT's kinda really hard to make a game though they probably have a more streamlined system. Anyways, yeah I'm really excited to work on the project I just hope that my group's coder manages to come in everyday so our project doesn't get held up 'cause as I said before, coding isn't really my strong suite. Anyways this is how it's been so far. I only hope I can put in a better effort next year.
